These are non-profit, educational, scientific, one-man projects. Here is a bit about me in three sentences, a video, and a few thousand words. Everything on my website is licenced under a Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Unported License, which is English for “use whatever you want for whatever, but put my name on it and its derivatives“, unless otherwise stated. It’d be nice if you let me know what you use them for, this stuff had been featured in the strangest Asian magazines, academic projects, scientific publications, but mostly a great lot of hobby projects of other people i have apparently inspired, which I really like to hear about, or maybe want to be involved with!
Hi, I’m Tim Zaman, 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 y.o. and I’m currently a software engineer for NVIDIA’s deep learning (“artificial intelligence”) AI-Infrastructure (link). That means: I sit behind a keyboard all day and expertly type in a sequence of keys. My peers refer to my resulting produce as “spaghetti”, named after a delicious Italian meal.
From 2013-2016 i was doing a part-time PhD in the development of imaging devices for cultural heritage applications at the Delft University of Technology (NL).
The other part of the time I’ve had my own company, working with software and hardware for cameras. Notably working on digitisation software I created for the Smithsonian Museum, MoMa and many others.
I like cameras, software, hardware, electronics, programming, electronics, education, finance. In real life, I have my cat Taco and my ladyfriend Dany, not specifically in that order.
I would appreciate it if you left a comment below, or don’t hesitate to send a more personal message to:

Hi Tim, have just viewed your Polaroids From Space project and I am starstruck. As a Polaroid enthusiast I have seen already the camera under the see but the space? Wow! Hope you do not mind me to share your project on my FB profile, or course credited to your account.
Tim, do you enjoy the arts or just a computer genius?
Good,
My query regarding 3D printing is that I am performing textured digital painting. As if it were painted by hand in a new digital technique OWN. Giving the visual impression, of the old masters in painting. With the texture of the old (Gotelé) system in the houses.
Today it is possible to print this in 3 D.
It would be decisive for my works, with great innovation in the world of art and painting.
To see images of works, in Instagram.
@Ferrandisissaev
I would like to buy such a picture. Is it possible?
Hello Tim, my name is Saar Kariv and I’m a bio medical engineer.
I am a part of a team that developes a novel quantitative imcroscopic imaging system for rapid and automatic detection of multiple diseases.
we want to use the computational power presented by the GPU to rese an image of the size of 512*512 pixels to 2048*2048 pixels.
i read in your websetethat you made performace tests of CPU vs GPU:
http://www.timzaman.com/2012/05/opencv-gpu-cuda-performance-comparison/
in one of the tests you used the resizing function offered by openCV.
my question is:
what are the input and outpt image dimentions?
where can o find performance data regarding the resizing of 512*512 to 2048*2048?
thank you very much!
Hello Tim,
My name is Steven Kaiser. I create oil paintings that can not be duplicated with Giclee due to the controlled impasto (controlled bumps) created. Your technique should, however, work.
My rep and I have been trying, unsuccessfully, to find someone in the USA that can create archival duplicates of my pieces. (normal inks can not be used, they must last at least 100+years- gicleés use pigment based inks, for example) and there may be a thousand or more created (out of all the real art, together).
We have found a place in in Germany, Russia, Japan, and Australia, but not here, in the USA.
If you know of anyone in the USA, or if you know of a way you could do this in the USA, I would appreciate it if you could contact me at 336-355-3874, or email me.
However, I do not have any electronics at home including a computer, so the best way is to call me because I may not get your email for a week or so. If you prefer to email, that’s OK though…
Thank you,
Steven Kaiser
Hi Tim! I’m Pablo and I found your website because we are developing an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) with parallel image processing in order to compute underwater images.
I want to use parallel programming to process those underwater images, and we need to choose an embedded computer with NVidia in order to use the CUDA libraries with OpenCV, Do you know which solution is the best to his requirements?
Any advice you can give me, I’d appreciate it very much.
I’ll take a look at your blog , it looks very interesting 🙂 thank you very much .
Regards
Pablo
You can go for CUDA or OpenCL. CUDA is often a lot of hassle with installing drivers and such, OpenCL is very straightforward and fully implemented in OpenCV. Just build OpenCV with OCL support. Instead of the ‘cv::Mat’ structure you will use the oclMat structure. Programming is very much the same. Note that building with tbb can give you a big CPU speedup though, multi-cpu is often just as fast as gpu.
Hi Tim,
I am part of the San Diego State University Rocket Project and we are working to integrate radio telemetry and saw your article showing some PCB breakouts you had designed: http://www.timzaman.nl/?p=2227
Any chance the schematic for the XTend 900 module is available for download at an alternate location? The link seems to be broken.
Thank you,
Travis
Hi Tim,
I understand your busy and probably are no longer interested in answering any questions regarding your project from 2011. Nevertheless, I’m very interested in purchasing GPSR components with instructions, please. Do you have an email posted somewhere on this site?
Thanks,
Olvin
Just buy this http://www.seeedstudio.com/depot/GPRS-Shield-V30-p-2333.html
I would like to have an panting, namely a beautiful oil portrait of a napoleonic general, reproduced by a 3D scanner. Is it possible to have this made by Tim Zaman, or not? Or maybe by somebody else? Trank you.
Hi!
My name is Eder, from Brazil.
I’ve tryed to make a test with the code you release on page http://www.timzaman.com/?p=1074 but I got a strange result. During the compilation I got a message that indicates
”CN3063 was not declared in this scope” do you know why?
thank you Tim
Hi Tim,
I am Mr. Manohar Pawar from India.
Above stuff is interesting. i would love to have one sample module for my testing.
Please send me the details on my email id.
thanks
Prettige dag,
Sang
Dear Tim,
I am directing a documentary about the impact of 3d printing on the art world, and the meaning of ‘original work’. It is not for profit, and I would love to talk to you about the development of your work if possible. Please email me to discuss it! I am already talking to some specialists from Christies, Sothebys and the Courtauld and would love to hear your opinion.
Many thanks,
Charlie
tim is making excellent but is always several steps behind the technology and science, sell obsolete, but is admirable passion with their stuff.
“here was link about some laser scanner product that’s been designed by an entire design team(removed-commercial)”
encourage, keep trying
I guess jealousy is the highest form of flattery. Given the quality of your English, I’ll just assume you are not up to date with the current literature in 3-D scanning. Laser scanning is abandoned. Lasers are for discotheques. More on-topic, my system is 3x more accurate than yours.
Hi Tim,
i saw ur old post about gprs gps tracking . im interested in it. but i don have any programming knowledge. can u please help me out setup with step by step instruction on your busy work schedule. i will b so grateful.
[GPRS GPS] Tracking device
Summary
I decided to make the “Sherlock I” which essentially is a GPS monitor that parses the info via GPRS to an FTP server, which converts it to a website with a simple PHP script to a google maps website-thingy, so that i can monitor ‘stuff’ real-time. I tried it a few times and it worked well. Then i got bored and forgot about it. But not before i made a youtube video from it!
Parts List
Arduino or equivalent
FTP server
Sim card with GPRS option (i used my unlimited iPhone one!)
GPS sensor with serial interface (I used a FALCOM FSA03)
GPRS Hilo/SAGEM module (€40 from Libelium)
Hallo Tim,
Groet,
Ed.
hi TIM ,,, i amk doing project on MMA7660 accelorometer.. my project name is DESIGN and DEVELOPMENT of HAND GLOVE CONTROLLED WHEEL CHAIR(u can find it in IEEE web site).. can u send me any related documents and code…

Hallo Tim,

I’ve done five launches with my high school students. I like the 1/4 wave antenna.
I want to introduce your working in Korean IT magazine.
I’m writing about ‘Open Source HW and Beagleboard’.
So can I use photos in your site?
You can use whatever you want.
hi
i want to site your kinect work in my bachelor thesis. Instead of just using your code in my project with no copyrights and I want to include that your work really helped me. Is there a certain format or details that i should include 😀
Usually i state what’s underneath here. Also, i permit you to change it to a “Beerware” licence (use google to see what that is 🙂 ). BE LIABLE FOR ANY

Essentially that says anyone can use it for whatever but if you make money with it you have to give it to me 🙂
ever thought about selling that HoHoHo1-thing commercially? Theres a lot of ppl that would easily pay 150€+ cause spaceballon communication is really expensive. At least, i woud 😀
chears, and nice project & page btw
Jens
only start a business when you can make a lot of money, dont start one where you can make just some. but if youre interested i can arrange one for you yourself to make, got osme pcb’s left.
Do you have any more detailed information on the Pictura I flight computer? A small group of us are working on putting up a balloon this winter and that unit seems like it would knock out a lot of our issues in a single, small package.
Thanks for the info and the site.
schematics and pcb design of PCB are here: http://hollandshoogte.wordpress.com/2010/08/17/new-flight-computer/ you can have the eagle (pcb) files if you’re a bit lazy, but that’d require either a donation or a honourable mention!
email:

This is the perfect post and may be one that ought to be followed up to see what are the results
A partner sent this link the other day and I will be desperately waiting your next write-up. Carry on on the extraordinary work.

mensen, GENIAAL!!!
succes.
Knap gedaan, gefeliciteerd. Hier een berichtje op onze site:

Wow! Your project are amazing!
I am speechless!!!
Bravo!
Beste mevouw Bakker,

Vriendelijke groet, Rina Bakker.
Tim, ongelofelijk gaaf zeg!! Knap gedaan hoor.
